This 3-day course is designed to teach participants the technical aspects of a variety of soft tissue surgery procedures in dogs and cats. Some theory will be included in the lecture aspect of the course, but emphasis will be placed on the technical aspects used to perform each procedure thus maximizing time in the workshop.

Video of clinical case material will be used extensively throughout the hands-on workshop to help illustrate each technique.

Course Description

This is an extensive, hands on course covering everything from basic ultrasound concepts and principles of image manipulation to fine tuning scanning techniques for smaller parts of the small animal abdomen such as adrenal glands and lymph nodes. Participants will go through a series of lectures and guided workshops to become familiar with the normal appearance of all abdominal organs as well as common pathology and how to recognize it sonographically.

This course provides a review of skills learned in basic abdominal ultrasound courses and provides a more in depth training on smaller parts including adrenal glands, lymph nodes and vasculature. Workshops will incorporate evaluation of smaller parts in both the cat and dog. Lectures will cover advanced abdominal imaging including small parts and Doppler imaging in more extensive detail and basic thoracic ultrasound evaluation will be discussed. Extensive case reviews will cover abnormalities of smaller parts.

Course Description

This 4-day course is designed to equip the practicing veterinarian with new and refined skills in practical small animal orthopedic procedures. Veterinarians will learn when to (and when not to) perform practical orthopedic surgical procedures and how to perform them with excellence. Procedures that you will perform on canine and feline cadavers include extracapsular suture stifle stabilization, medial patellar luxation, femoral head/neck ostectomy (traditional and ventral), lateral approach to the femur, feline mandibular symphysis fracture repair, joint taps, epidural injections and amputation of the pelvic and thoracic limbs.

This multi-day course will integrate lecture, discussion and laboratory sessions to provide a comprehensive refresher and update on small animal anesthesia for veterinarians and veterinary technicians. Experienced instructors will share information on anesthesia delivery equipment, anesthetic, analgesic and adjunctive medications, techniques for drug delivery, current practices for providing supportive care and interpretation of information provided by monitoring tools. This will be followed by information related to the management of animals presenting with specific co-morbidities using case-based materials as appropriate. There will be opportunities for discussion and for participants to ask questions specific to their circumstances. For participants who choose to stay for the advanced day, there will be an opportunity to learn more about local /regional anesthesia techniques, go through advanced cases or simulation and learn about anesthesia in other species (e.g., rabbit, bird, reptile).

If you'd like to add on a 4th day of Anesthesia study, you may do so on Thursday, May 29 for an additional 8 hours of CE Credit Hours and $1,250.

This two-day session offers veterinary professionals certification as RECOVER CPR Basic Life Support (BLS) and Advanced Life Support (ALS) Instructors, approved to certify veterinary professionals as RECOVER BLS and ALS Rescuers. Participants will learn how to conduct the BLS and ALS Rescuer certification courses and administer standardized assessments to certify others in BLS and ALS. Participants will learn how to run hands-on BLS certification workshops with CPR mannequins and how to deliver standardized assessments to certify others in BLS. Attendees will then learn to run a hands-on ALS certification workshop with a canine patient simulator running a series of CPR simulations, and ultimately a final “mega-code” certification simulation.

The first day will be focused on learning and practicing how to run and facilitate learning through BLS and ALS Rescuer workshops. The second day will be spent conducting a Rescuer workshop with the guidance of experienced instructors.

Attendance for both days is required (5/28/25 and 5/29/25). There is a prerequisite Instructor Assessment all applicants must pass prior to registration. Access to the assessments will be provided at a later date.

Course Description

This 2-day hands-on orthopedic workshop covers Tibial Plateau-Leveling Osteotomy (TPLO) and Cranial Closing Wedge Ostectomy (CCWO) surgical techniques.

You'll learn the biomechanics of the cruciate ligament deficient stifle and tibial plateau leveling osteotomy; patient assessment and the selection of candidates for TPLO; and pre-operative surgical planning and implant selection. You'll become familiar with the appropriate use of instrumentation, and understand the post-operative management of patients to identify potential complications and how to avoid and deal with them. You'll also learn and practice surgical techniques.

How do we best treat animals in cardiopulmonary arrest? Evidence-based veterinary CPR guidelines published by the RECOVER Initiative aimed at maximizing patient survival after cardiopulmonary arrest led to the official veterinary CPR certification process approved by the American College of Veterinary Emergency and Critical Care. This course will teach RECOVER Basic Life Support (BLS) and Advanced Life Support (ALS) concepts and techniques.

The certification process consists of an online course followed by in-person training. Because of this, participants must have successfully completed the RECOVER online BLS and ALS courses available at learning.acvecc.org. Successful completion of the in-person workshop grants certification as a RECOVER BLS and ALS Rescuer. Human medical professionals are certified in human CPR. Veterinary medical professionals should get certified in veterinary CPR!

Registration for the online portion of the certifying course is included in the registration fee for the onsite portion to be held at the conference. Once registration for the onsite lab is complete, participants will be notified with login information for the online portion of the course, which must be completed before the onsite portion for the individual to participate in the conference workshop.

ECM emergencies happen commonly.  In this course, we will discuss what these look like so you can recognize them early.  We will go over diagnostics and how to interpret the diagnostics.  We will discuss treatment options- medicine or surgery or both!  We will also discuss prognosis of these emergencies.  We will focus on the most common emergencies in the most common species seen in practice.  But we will also discuss the less common ECM so you are prepared even when that sugar glider or hedgehog comes in the door.

Avian clinical techniques will allow participants to learn hands-on approaches to reproductive disease, surgical prolapse, and avian emergencies. Most avian patients are prey species and hide evidence of illness for as long as possible. By the time they are presented to the veterinary clinic, birds are often much more debilitated than the owners realize. Appropriate triage and stabilization is required for birds presenting on emergency. Techniques covered in this workshop are essential for any veterinary practitioner working with birds. This review will cover clinical techniques applicable to both elective and emergency cases. The clinical techniques covered in this workshop will include appropriate grooming methods of the nails, beak, and wings; injection site location and tips for intramuscular, subcutaneous, and intravenous medications; venipuncture; intravenous catheterization; intraosseous catheterization; crop sampling, lavage, and gavage feeding; and more!

Other topics covered will include, prolapse reduction techniques and reproductive disease. The placement of transverse sutures for temporary fixation. Special focus will be given to vent and cloacal surgical procedures including single-site and bilateral traditional ventplasty, asymmetric right ventplasty of psittacine birds, and multiple cloacopexy techniques.
Reproductive disease is one of the most common causes of avian patients presenting on an emergency. Workshops will discuss coelomic surgical approaches in birds, including the flank approach, ventral midline, and variations of ventral midline. Step-by-step coverage of an avian salpingohysterectomy will be reviewed including tips and tricks for performing this surgery on birds with reproductive disease.
