Arranged exclusively for VMX attendees, Behind the Scenes Tours give you the opportunity to get up close and personal with unfamiliar, non-domesticated species in their natural habitat and provide a glimpse into the inner workings of veterinary care and husbandry at these world-renowned facilities.

Busch Gardens Animal Care Center & Serengeti Safari


DATES: Tuesday, January 22, 2019

TIME: 7:30 AM – 7:30 PM

WHO CAN ATTEND: Veterinarians/Veterinary Nurse/Technicians

COST: $250/person

Start your day at Busch Gardens Tampa Bay with a 90-minute behind-the-scenes tour conducted by the park’s veterinarians of the Animal Care Center. In this state-of-the-art facility, you’ll learn directly from the team that cares for the 12,000 animals who call the park home. Discover more about the role of behavioral conditioning and nutrition in animal health at Busch Gardens, with opportunities to ask questions and share best practices. Afterward, grab a spot on the a spacious open-air touring vehicle for an unforgettable Serengeti Safari where you’ll see hundreds of fascinating animals and get close enough to feed some of them by hand. Spend the rest of your day (approx. six hours) enjoying some of Florida’s best thrill rides and live entertainment.

*Buses depart from the OCCC at 7:30 AM and return at 7:30 PM. Registrants are responsible for arranging transportation to and from the OCCC the day of the tour.

Manatee Encounter & Homosassa State Park


DATES: Sunday, January 20, 2019; Monday, January 21, 2019; Tuesday, January 22, 2019

TIME: 5:00 AM – 5:00 PM

WHO CAN ATTEND: Open to All

COST: $235/person

Swim all morning with the “gentle giants” of Florida in a once-in-a lifetime manatee encounter, enjoy a bayside lunch on beautiful Kings Bay at a favorite local restaurant and take a leisurely walk in the afternoon at Homosassa Springs Wildlife State Park. You may encounter endangered and declining species such as the whooping crane and wood stork, red wolf and Florida Panther, as well as the more abundant wildlife; birds of prey, shorebirds and wading birds, black bear and alligators. The tour includes we suits, snorkels, masks, transportation, lunch and instruction. Limited to 40 attendees per day. Children ages 9-17 must be accompanied by an adult. Children under age 9 are not permitted on this tour. Buses depart from OCCC at 5:00 AM and return at 5:00 PM. Registrants are responsible for arranging transportation to and from the OCCC the day of the tour.

SeaWorld® Orlando

WHO CAN ATTEND: Veterinarians/Veterinary Nurse/Technicians

COST: $140/person

Experience a side of SeaWorld that few others ever can – observe firsthand the veterinary care, husbandry, training and study of the resident animals of this world-famous park! You will also have the chance to enjoy the athletic performances of dolphins and other marine animals. You’re sure to get splashed! Limited to 30 attendees per day. Buses depart from the OCCC at 12:30 PM and return at 5:45 PM. Registrants are responsible for arranging transportation to and from the OCCC the day of the tour.
