Four Days of Immersive Education, Expert Instruction, Inspiring Experiences

By Judy Gray

Becoming proficient in a new skill usually involves a significant investment of your time and money. You probably have a long list of what you could do with more of each. The NAVC understands that. We know that veterinary continuing education is vital to your value and critically important to your clinic.

We designed the NAVC Institute as an affordable, convenient solution. Imagine being able to master professional techniques that broaden and deepen your expertise in only four days, at a beautiful resort for an all-inclusive* fee. You’ll earn 32 CE credit hours. Our specialized courses are held in small group settings, combining the use of video cases, hands-on workshops, and lectures from respected professionals. You’ll return to your practice, armed with new skills that you can use immediately.

Hearing from some of our attendees about their experiences might whet your appetite. We asked several to comment on the quality of instruction and their thoughts about the course leaders and instructors, the physical environment, and the value of the sessions.

Brooke Lewis DVM; Lewis Veterinary Behavior Solutions, Madison, WI, told us:

My experience at the NAVC Institute was unlike any other CE I have attended. In our ever-changing digital world, we forget how valuable small group sessions with leading veterinarians in their specialty can be. Dr. Overall and Dr. Seksel were amazing instructors. Their lectures often turned to lively discussions using real world examples and experiences.

Throughout the year Dr. Overall set up a list serve to keep in touch with the other participants in our class. This has proved to be an invaluable resource to continue discussions, get a new viewpoint on challenging cases, and see the various ways this new knowledge can be utilized. I can’t express how valuable this course was; in fact, I am coming back again this year.

Not only did this experience give me a boost in my behavior knowledge, it also helped to validate the significant amount of knowledge/skills I had coming into the course. This helped reawaken my true passion for behavior and gave me the confidence to finally take the next step in my career.

The hotel was beautiful, quiet at night, and close to the lecture hall which was much appreciated. I highly enjoyed the yoga and would love to see additional self-care options this year (more yoga, meditation, swim yoga, etc).

Dr. Miranda G. Logan, Owner of Foothills Animal Hospital in Okotoks, Alberta, Canada, said:

I have attended the Behavior Medicine course (2007, 2012, 2013, 2017) and am signed up for the advanced course this month. I have also attended the ABVP Exam Course twice. The instructors of the ABVP course were excellent but my true passion is behavior. Dr. Karen Overall and Dr. Kersti Seksel are amazing. No matter how many times I attend, I always get so much out of it. I have always recommended the NAVC courses to anyone who dares ask about it!

We asked specifically if the additional skills benefited her clinic. Dr. Logan replied, “I apply the skills I learn to my clients, patients and my clinic. It allows me to better help my behaviour patients.” Regarding the personal benefit she received, Dr. Logan added, “Without Dr. Overall, I would not be the vet I am today.”

We think that’s powerful testimony. Add to those positive comments that the NAVC Institute has many repeat attendees. That means a lot to us because they could choose to get their CE elsewhere. We hope to see you at NAVC Institute 2020!
