Position Objective

The Production Editor is responsible for the day-to-day production processes of the peer-reviewed Journals of The North American Veterinary Community (NAVC). This role involves the day to day production management of Today’s Veterinary Practice and Today’s Veterinary Nurse (10 issues total), which are peer-reviewed clinical journals.  The Production Editor will also handle vendor management and communication with contractors handling circulation, printing and book publishing, as well as work on custom NAVC Publishing projects as assigned.

Position Responsibilities

Day-to-day production responsibilities for Today’s Veterinary Practice and Today’s Veterinary Nurse including:

  • Facilitate the overall management and workflow of the content for each issue and ensure on time and accurate uploads to the printer of each issue.
  • Communicate with authors, reviewers, and copyeditors to produce content
  • Must ensure contracts are in place for each author and reviewer, and submit invoices for payments to contributors in a timely manner, including all necessary paperwork for accounting
  • Maintain editorial content and budget trackers
  • Ensure on time delivery of assets to Art Director
  • Serve as the in-house liaison for production questions regarding printer upload dates, custom printing quotes, and more
  • Serve as the in-house liaison for circulation contractor to ensure all strategic goals are being met.
  • Create and maintain a network of animal health industry contacts
  • Stay abreast of events and trends that have – or may have in the future – an impact on veterinary practices by reading, researching, attending industry events and networking with contacts
  • Participate in weekly departmental meetings, and assist with special projects as assigned

  • On-time delivery of publication files to the printer

  • Ensuring strategic goals are met for audience development through vendor relationships
  • Maintain high customer satisfaction ratings that meet NAVC standards
  • Complete required training and development objectives within assigned time frame

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree or higher in Journalism or Communications
  • 5+ years of experience in print and/or digital media
  • Demonstrated ability to manage publication workflow
  • Creative and entrepreneurial approach
  • Solid group and interpersonal communication skills
  • Experience with clinical or peer reviewed journals preferred
