Dr. Sally Haddock was the founder and owner of St. Marks Veterinary Hospital located in the vibrant East Village of New York City where she and her committed staff provided high-quality
and compassionate care to New York City pets since 1986. She retired from St Marks Vet in 2021 and currently works part time in Vermont. An Ohio native, Dr. Haddock received her Bachelor’s degree in Zoology from Miami University (Ohio) in 1976 and in 1980, her doctorate in Veterinary Medicine from The Ohio State
University. She began her career in a private practice in Pittsburgh, followed by an internship and then a medical residency at the prestigious Animal Medical Center of New York City. There she honed her veterinary skills which contribute to the well-rounded veterinarian that she is today. It was during this time that Dr. Haddock‘s book, “Making of a Woman Vet,” was published. The book describes the rigors of veterinary college and the trials and triumphs of veterinary practice.

While raising a family and managing a thriving five-vet practice, Dr. Haddock never wavered in her commitment to service in veterinary medicine. She chaired the Annual Awards Banquet of
the Veterinary Medical Association of New York City (VMANYC) for more than 15 years and served several years as Program Chair for the Atlantic Coast Veterinary Conference. She was
equally active in her local community where her hospital worked with NY SAVE, providing emergency care to pet owners with financial need, and Paws NY, helping to provide veterinary
services to people who are homebound and needed help caring for their pets. Dr. Haddock is one of a few select veterinarians who have received the Merit Award, the Outstanding Service
Award and, most recently, the Distinguished Life Service Award from the VMANYC. Dr. Haddock wanted to give back to the Veterinary community which has served her so well.
Being elected to the NAVC Board of Directors in 2016 was the perfect way to do so. The NAVC’s mission to create unparalleled opportunities for the veterinary community that foster
lifelong learning, encourage growth and promote well-being to advance animal care worldwide has always carried special meaning for Dr. Haddock, culminating in her becoming NAVC Board President in 2025.

When not working part time in Vermont or serving on the board of the NAVC, Dr. Haddock loves spending time with her family, including husband Tom, children Kristen, Todd and Sara,
stepsons Jason and Tommy, six grandchildren, Tyler, Serena, Sofia, Teddy, Timmy and Layla, and two fuzzy Bernese Mountain dogs named Bigi and Quincy.

One of her favorite activities is dining at her husband’s restaurant, Veselka, which is conveniently located on the same block as St Marks Vet. An outdoor enthusiast, Sally’s interests include cycling, fitness classes, photography, gardening, and just laughing with good friends!

When did Sally first know she wanted to be in veterinary medicine? “Although I was fascinated with animals from an early age, it was almost unheard of back in the 1970s for a woman to become a veterinarian. Needless to say, my parents discouraged me from applying to Vet School. Despite that, as a freshman Zoology major, I volunteered for a local vet in Oxford, Ohio while attending college. I saw first-hand how much I loved helping
animals and was determined to fight the odds and apply to veterinary school. Fortunately, I was blessed to be accepted and my life just fell into place after that. I believe I was truly meant to
become a veterinarian!”
