Life’s not a motion picture, and veterinary students can’t edit out the accumulation of student debt by leaving their college years on the cutting-room floor. But when dozens of organizations and 100 volunteers come together with a common cause and mission, we can all certainly try to rewrite the script. That’s exactly what the AVMA and the AAVMC are attempting to do through the collaborative Fix the Debt Initiative, which emerged from the Fix the Debt Summit held in April 2016, hosted by Michigan State University and co-sponsored by the AVMA and AAVMC.

This session will provide updates on the work that is being done as part of the ongoing initiative. We encourage participants at the session to provide feedback and discussion on this critical issue facing our profession.
“Over the past few years, we have made remarkable progress as an organization in our commitment to developing, coordinating and leading the charge when it comes to the economic challenges facing the profession.” said AVMA President Dr. Tom Meyer. “There is a commitment to these economic issues that will grow stronger as we continue to work together to ease the financial burden of our students and young veterinarians.”
