    Upon completing a Bachelor’s degree in biology and chemistry from Murray State University in Kentucky, Dr. Mia Cary spent six years in the field of marine mammalogy. This six-year adventure began with an internship under Dr. James G. Mead at the Museum of Natural History in Washington, DC and included unique work in diverse locations such as the Dominican Republic (Center for Costal Studies) and Barrow, Alaska (North Slope Borough, Department of Wildlife Management).

    Dr. Cary graduated with honors from the University of Florida’s College of Veterinary Medicine in 1999. After working in private practice in Gainesville, FL as an associate veterinarian (and before and during veterinary school as a veterinary technician) she joined Novartis Animal Health where she held a variety of positions including Territory Manager, Key Customer Consultant, Regional Trainer, District Manager, National Sales Training Manager, and Brand Manager.

    Dr. Cary joined Boehringer Ingelheim Vetmedica, Inc. (BIVI) in June 2004 as a Professional Service Veterinarian covering the Southeastern US and in February 2005 was named Manager of the Pet Segment Professional Services team. In February 2006 she was promoted to Marketing Manager for the Companion Animal Segment and in January 2007 transitioned into the role of Senior Associate Director of Professional Services followed by a Regional Sales Manager role from 2009 until 2013.

    Dr. Cary Joined the North American Veterinary Community (NAVC) in February 2014 as the Vice President of Corporate Relations. In February 2016 Dr. Cary was named NAVC’s first-ever Chief Innovation Officer. In May 1, 2017 this position evolved to Chief Collaboration Officer and includes oversight for all NAVC educational offerings. She also serves as Executive Director for the Veterinary Innovation Council (VIC), 2017 President for the American Association of Industry Veterinarians (AAIV) and is on the Board of Directors for Pet Peace of Mind (PPOM).

    At NAVC Dr. Cary has the pleasure of working with an amazing and talented group of people, all with the mission of bringing world-class education to the veterinary profession while bringing to life NAVC’s vision of becoming the most sought after, collaborative, and innovative community in the veterinary profession.

    She resides in Greensboro, NC with her husband, three bonus kids and Lucy the dog.
