Dr. Daniel Aja serves as Banfield Pet Hospital’s chief medical officer and senior vice president of veterinary medical operations.
In his role, Dr. Aja leads Banfield’s internal and external veterinary medicine initiatives, ensures the selection and retention of outstanding veterinarians, drives medicine quality initiatives in more than 960 hospitals and cultivates relationships within the veterinary profession and Mars Petcare.
Dr. Aja brings more than 30 years of experience in the veterinary medicine profession that includes diverse skills in corporate leadership, as well as practice ownership and management.
Prior to joining Banfield in 2014, Dr. Aja served as director of U.S. Professional and Veterinary Affairs at Hill’s Pet Nutrition, where he was responsible for its United States veterinary division.
Previously, Dr. Aja owned the Cherry Bend Animal Hospital in Traverse City, Michigan. As the owner and hospital director for 22 years, Dr. Aja built a successful practice, which was accredited by the American Animal Hospital Associated in 1988.
Dr. Aja serves on the Oregon Zoo Bond Citizens’ Oversight Committee and is a founding board member of Partners for Healthy Pets. He has served as a member of the American Veterinary Medical Association House of Delegates and the AVMA State Legislative and Regulatory Issues Task Force, as well as the AVMA Strategic Planning Committee. Dr. Aja was appointed by the governor of Michigan to the State Board of Veterinary Medicine serving a four-year term.
In 2005 Dr. Aja was elected as president of the American Animal Hospital Association. In 2006, he received the Distinguished Alumnus Award from the College of Veterinary Medicine at Michigan State University, where he earned his veterinary medical degree.
Dr. Aja and his wife, Shannon, are the proud owners of three Cavalier King Charles Spaniels named Bayley, Thyme and Troy.
